About the Utica ABSN Program and the Advanced Standing BS in Nursing Program: Satellite Locations

Utica University has two satellite locations in place to support our ABSN program and our Advanced Standing BS in Nursing Program. The first, launched in January 2013, is located in Syracuse, NY (approximately 55 miles from our main campus in Utica, New York). The newest location in Albany, NY (approximately 100 miles from our main campus) was launched in 2022. It’s important to note that the ABSN program is available at both learning sites, while the Advanced Standing BS in Nursing is available at Albany only. As a nursing student, you’ll go to a learning site to take proctored exams, participate in clinical skills classes, and complete nursing simulation labs under the guidance of faculty.

When deciding which of our programs is right for you, it’s also important to consider our Advanced Standing BS in Nursing program differs slightly from the ABSN program. While the ABSN offers online courses, in-person labs and clinical rotations, the Advanced Standing BS in Nursing program offers face-to-face classes supported by an online platform.

Not only do our programs fulfill the state’s need for nurses by producing practice-ready care providers, but they make the ABSN curriculum more accessible to more qualified students. Developed by the Utica University Department of Nursing, the accelerated nursing curriculum is designed to teach students how to:

  • Adapt the theories of a liberal education into nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate leadership in delivering high-quality patient care.
  • Adhere to the legal and ethical standards when practicing nursing.
  • Provide safe, competent and ethical care across the patient lifespan.
