How the Utica Accelerated Nursing Program and the Advanced Standing BS in Nursing Program Work

Our ABSN program and our Advanced Standing BS in Nursing program put your non-nursing college credits, or your non-nursing degree, to work toward a bachelor’s of science in nursing in as few as 16 months. Our accelerated, full-time program features a three-part hybrid curriculum:

  • Online learning platform or face-to-face classes supported by online tools in the Transfer BSN Pathway, lay the groundwork for your nursing education through modules and discussion boards.
  • Simulation and skills labs that provide hands-on learning with faculty in a risk-free mock clinical setting.
  • Clinical rotations at top area hospitals where our ABSN sites are located allows you to care for patients in advanced medical settings.

While our rigorous curriculum will require a lot of time and commitment, our dedicated faculty and staff are available to help you stay on track.

Please note, however, that before you can enroll in the Utica accelerated nursing program or the Advanced Standing BS in Nursing program, you may need to complete some degree requirement courses (previously called prerequisites) which you can take 100% online.

How many start dates are offered a year?

Our ABSN program and Advanced Standing BS in Nursing program locations have three start dates a year, in January, May, and August.

Is the program 100% online?

No. Our program requires you to come to a program site on a regularly scheduled basis. Therefore, it is important to at least live within driving distance of one of our locations. You can expect to be at one of our ABSN learning sites approximately three to four days per week, and to complete 225 hours of skills and simulation labs in-person at one of our program sites and 588 hours of clinical practice in local healthcare facilities.

Can I work during the program?

We do not recommend working during your time in the program. In fact, because our fast-paced program is so compressed, we recommend treating it like a full-time job.

What are the NCLEX pass rates and why are they so important?

The NCLEX is a national exam all nursing school graduates must take and pass to receive the appropriate nurse licensure that allows them to practice the profession. Our 2019 graduates’ first-time NCLEX pass rate in Syracuse was 89%.
